Pet Fees
Pet fees differ by brand and hotel. Many Holiday Inn/Holiday Inn Express hotels charge a pet fee around $25–$50 per night (often with a cap per stay) . Candlewood Suites and Staybridge (extended stay brands) often charge ~$75–$150 per stay (sometimes based on length of stay). Kimpton Hotels have no pet fee at all – every Kimpton welcomes pets free of charge . At the luxury end, some InterContinental hotels charge higher fees (up to ~$250 at certain city hotels) . All fees are non-refundable unless noted otherwise by a specific hotel.
Weight Limits
Varies by brand/property. Many IHG hotels set a ~50 lb limit per pet (common at Holiday Inn brands). Some hotels have lower limits (e.g. 25–40 lbs), while others higher. Kimpton has no weight limit – any size is welcome . InterContinental and Crowne Plaza may allow small dogs generally, with weight limits that differ per hotel. Always check the specific hotel’s limit; there is no single IHG-wide rule.
Breed Restrictions
No IHG-wide breed restrictions. Kimpton hotels accept all breeds (no restrictions at all) . Other IHG brands don’t specify breed bans chain-wide, but individual hotels might restrict breeds they consider aggressive. Generally, if a pet is well-behaved, its breed is not an issue at IHG hotels.
Max Pets per Room
Usually 1–2 pets per room. Most pet-friendly Holiday Inn, Staybridge, etc., allow up to two pets. Kimpton imposes no limit on number of pets – guests can bring multiple pets with no extra charge . (If more than 2, it’s courteous to notify in advance.) Some hotels may only allow one pet, so verify with the specific property.
Types of Pets Permitted
Dogs and cats are the most commonly allowed pets across IHG. Kimpton explicitly welcomes any animal (dogs, cats, birds, reptiles, etc – “furry, feathery or scaly”) with no exclusions , making it unique. Outside of Kimpton, most IHG hotels focus on dogs; many also accept cats. Other pet types (birds, rabbits, etc.) might be considered at some hotels on a case-by-case basis, but are not guaranteed.
Required Documentation
May be required upon request. Some IHG properties (especially extended-stay brands) ask that you have proof of vaccinations available. For example, Candlewood Suites’ pet policy states you must have proper vet records showing shots are up to date, available on request . Generally, you’ll sign a pet agreement at check-in and provide a contact number. It’s wise to carry vaccination records, although most hotels won’t proactively check them unless an issue arises.
Pet Friendly Amenities
IHG offers various pet amenities depending on brand. Kimpton Hotels stand out for pet-friendliness – they provide pet beds, food bowls, mats, and treats in rooms, plus extras like a “Director of Pet Relations” (a resident lobby dog) at some locations . Many Kimptons invite pets to the evening social hour. Other IHG hotels typically provide at least a pet relief area on site and sometimes welcome treats at check-in. A number of InterContinental hotels provide pet beds and bowls for use, and even room service menus for dogs at certain luxury properties . Overall, amenities can range from basic (waste bags, grassy area) to deluxe (toys, pet-sitting services at select resorts).
Other Restrictions
Restrictions: Vary by brand. Common rules: pets must be leashed or crated in public areas; no pets in dining areas or pools. Unattended: Most IHG hotels do not allow pets to be left alone in the room unless crated and you remain on premises. Kimpton is relatively lenient (pets can be in the room unattended for short periods, provided they don’t disturb others – you’ll give a cell number to the front desk). Housekeeping will require the pet be restrained or out of the room during service.
Additional Notes
Notes: IHG has a mix of pet policies since it spans many brands. Kimpton hotels have one of the most pet-friendly policies anywhere (no fees, no size/breed limits) – a highlight for pet travelers. Other IHG brands like Holiday Inn, EVEN, Hotel Indigo, Staybridge, Candlewood have pet-friendly locations, but not every hotel in those brands allows pets (always confirm individual hotel policy ). Some InterContinental hotels in resorts offer special pet packages with amenities, whereas others in certain countries don’t allow pets at all. Always check ahead, especially internationally, as policies can differ by country. Service animals are permitted at all IHG hotels with no fee.
