Pet Entry Requirements for Andorra

Step 1

Pet Microchip

Your pet must be identified with a 15-digitwhich is compliant with International Standards Organization standard 11784 or Annex A of ISO standard 11785 prior to entering Andorra. All documentation must reflect the microchip number. If your pet’s microchip is not ISO 11784/11785 compliant, importers can provide athat will read their pet’s microchip. Your veterinarian, a veterinary hospital or a trained nurse should implant the microchip. You should receive documentation on how to register it in the manufacturer or your government’s database.

Step 2

Vaccinations

After microchipping, your pet dog or cat must be vaccinated for rabies between 12 weeks and 12 months prior to entry. The vaccine must be an inactivated or recombinant rabies vaccine that that is approved for use in your country. The results of a rabies titer test or a veterinarian exemption letter are no substitute for proof of rabies vaccination. Vaccinations against diseases such as distemper, hepatitis, leptospirosis, and parvovirus, feline viral rhinotracheitis, panleukopenia and feline leukemia are part of a healthy pet regimen are always recommended when traveling internationally; however, proof of these vaccinations is not required when entering Andorra.

Step 3

Rabies Titer (Serology) Test

A rabies titer test, also known as a rabies antibody test or rabies serology test, is a blood test that measures the level of rabies antibodies in your pet’s blood. The test will assess the effectiveness of a rabies vaccination or determine your pet’s immune response to the rabies virus. When required, a licensed veterinarian will administer the test more than 30 days after the most current rabies vaccination. A rabies titer test should be administered no sooner than 30 days after the rabies vaccination For pets entering Andorra fromhigh-rabies countries. Do not count the day of the veterinary visit. Samples must be processed at approved laboratories. Assuming test results within acceptable limits, your pet can enter Andorra 91 days after the date the blood was drawn.

Step 4

Parasite Treatments

Pet owners should always protect their pets from internal and external parasites, especially when traveling internationally. Proof of these treatments is not required for pets imported to Andorra unless being transported commercially.

Step 5

Health Certificate

Every country worldwide requires and original health certificate in their pet import regulations, and Andorra is no exception. The health certificate should include: owner’s informationorigination and destination details anddetails of your pet andvaccinations and treatments andveterinary attestations regarding symptoms of contagious diseases at the time of export. Further, your veterinarian must certify that your pet is healthy enough to travel, and is not from a region that is subject to rabies restrictions. The health certificate must properly identify your pet. Depending on the origination country, additional details and treatments must be listed. A licensed veterinarian in the origination country must complete the bi-lingual. A government veterinarian in the origination country must endorse the certificate after issuance. The health certificate should be translated to Catalan or English. EU resident pets must have current EU Pet Passports when traveling to Andorra.

    We refer to a pet passport as a collection of documents that fulfill Andorra pet import requirements for dogs or cats entering this country.This term is not to be confused with an official EU Pet Passport issued in the European Union for EU-resident pets.   • Breeds Banned by Andorra:

    Andorra does not publish a list of banned breeds. However, as your pet will need to enter Andorra through Spain or France (next step), their breed restrictions will preside. Spain will require that these breeds must wear a muzzle to pass security: Pit Bull Terrier, Staffordshire Bull Terrier, American Staffordshire Terrier, Rottweiler, Dogo Argentino, Fila Brasiliero, Tosa Inu and Akita Inu. France prohibits the import of the following breeds without pedigree certification: Staffordshire Terriers, American Staffordshire Terriers or Tosa. These breeds must be a registered pedigree. France does not permit crosses of these breeds. Additionally, Mastiff and Boerbull breeds and their crosses may not be imported. American Staffordshire Terriers, Staffordshire Terriers and Japanese Tosas can be imported to France as class 2 guard dogs only with pedigree papers. Rottweilers may also be imported as class 2 dogs without pedigree papers. France does not permit the import of Mastiffs and Boerboel breeds.

  • Find a Licensed Veterinarian:

    Before beginning any pet export procedure, make sure your veterinarian is approved by the governing veterinarian authority in your pet’s country of origin. Your veterinarian should work for or is licensed by the agency of the government that is responsible for the movement of live animals.

  • Andorra Pet Import Requirements:

    Although Andorra is not a member of the European Union, it has adopted many EU regulations for pet import. All steps required to conform to pet import regulations for Andorra must be completed in the origination country. There will be no quarantine imposed on your pet when entering Andorra if the following import regulations are met.

  • Entering Andorra via Spain or France:

    Andorra is located in a valley in the mid-Pyrenees and consequently does not have an international airport. The only way to enter and leave Andorra is by auto or bus. One may enter Andorra via either the border with Spain or France.   • Importing Other Pet Animals to Andorra:

    Birds, invertebrates, tropical fish, reptiles, amphibia, mammals such as rodents and rabbits are not subject to requirements of rabies vaccination, but may have to meet other requirements and must have a health certificate to enter Andorra. Pet owners are strongly advised to seek further information from the relevant authority of their country and/or that of the country of destination.

  • Importing Puppies and Kittens to Andorra:

    Puppies, kittens and ferrets under 12 weeks of age should not be vaccinated for rabies. Unvaccinated pets are not permitted import to Andorra. Owners should have their pets vaccinated for rabies according to your veterinarian’s guidance (14-16 weeks of age) and follow further regulations listed here prior to travel. The minimum age a puppy or kitten can enter Andorra from arabies-controlled countryis 12 weeks and 22 days. If entering from ahigh-risk-of-rabies country, the minimum age is seven months.   • Animals Eligible for These Pet Import Requirements:

    These rules apply to the transport of domestic dogs and cats including assistance and service animals. Unless 5th generation removed from the pedigree, wolf hybrids, Savannah and Bengal cats cannot be imported under these regulations.
